I found a field that had been planted with tulips the previous year,  and some of those tulips had managed to survive the harvesting and replanting of the field with a different crop this year.

And here's part 2.

All these tulips are grown for the bulbs.  They're dug up out of the ground and exported around the world.  Because these tulips are not grown for the blooms per se,  when the flowers are mature,  they're cut.  These next two images show the plants with the flowers cut off and left in the middle of the rows.

Tonight after work I ran up to the Skagit Valley to shoot the tulips in the very powerful winds we had here today.

This first shot is a normal tulip shot that I'm sure lots of people get.  What I particularly like about this shot is the way that the tulips receding in the distance reminds me of New York skyscrapers.

Hey all!

The tulips are blooming in the Skagit Valley,  and I made it up there yesterday with my kite.  I'm super excited about these photos,  it was the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival that made me first want to do Kite Aerial Photography,  and last year was largely a failure.  I'm hoping to make it up again before the tulips are gone,  but I'm happy ( Read more... )

 Hello all,

Yesterday I went to the area around Mt. Vernon, WA for their tulip festival.  The Skagit Valley is where tulips are grown in huge fields and shipped around the world,  so the displays of color when they are blooming are quite extraordinary.

Mostly these pictures are for my mom.  Happy (early) Mothers Day!
